295 Hither Green Ln
295 Hither Green Lane
The entrance to the garden is through large gates on Duncrievie Road. The gardens at the old Eliot Lodge farmhouse, Hither Green Lane, had fallen into disuse then abuse by the late 20th century. Home to detritus – rusting stolen cars, abandoned clothes, bottles, bags and batteries, choked with ivy, reeking with decay. Clearing gradually, rescuing and planting, sensitively and always with wildlife in mind, Maire and friends have over years shaped an urban forest glade, joyful in spring, shaded in the summer heat and thrumming with life.
