Godfrey Smith is a prominent local historian and has lived in
Hither Green all his life. His book ‘Hither Green: The Forgotten Hamlet’ was published in 1997 and a revised edition is set for publication in early 2016.

Guided Walks Information
1. St. Mary’s Church, Ladywell to Hither Green

Time 10am-12pm

Location: Meet at the Church of St Mary the Virgin next to Lewisham Hospital.
Overview: The walk will proceed from the church, up Hither Green Lane, and along Ryecroft Road, the ‘Hocus Pocus Footpath’ over the railway bridge to Lee and to Hither Green.


2. A circular walk, starting and finishing in Hither Green

Time: 2pm-4pm

Location: Meet at the Clock Tower, Meridian South, Hither Green. Access from Hither Green Lane via George Lane.

Overview: Godfrey will take you on a eye opening tour of Hither Green: From Medieval Farms to discovering local landed entry through to the barrage balloons kept at Mountsfield Park during World War II.


Cost: Both Walks are free, but booking is required
Capacity A maximum of 20 people per walk.
