Hither Green Open Meeting- Come join us! 2 November

Join us on the evening of Tuesday 2 November  at the Hither Green Baptist Church on Radford Road.  Time- 7-9.pm

Lewisham Council Officers and Councillors will be with us.

We’ll be discussing upcoming projects for Hither Green, improving Hither Green Lane and Springbank Road,  PLUS helping to decide  how to spend  £300,000 of new community spending for Lewisham Central.

THE HGCA NEEDS NEW PEOPLE!

The Hither Green Community Association is a long standing group and we are looking for more active residents to help make changes in our neighbourhood.  Community gardening aside, like most community groups,  the HGCA closed activities for the past 2 years. Many of our key members have since  moved away or have increased work and family commitments and so we are seeking a fresh cohort of  residents to form a new committee for the next six months/  year.

The way we work:  Even before Covid the HGCA decided to work on projects in small groups and  volunteers give as only as much time as they can. While it has been sad to miss out on the usual flurry of social events, the HGCA has worked successfully online and is happy to keep working online and in small, focused groups.

Come along to the open meeting and find out more.

RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS FOR UPCOMING PROJECTS

Hither Green Christmas Trees & the Christmas Market- we need two more volunteers to help organise a fun and safe Christmas Market and to join in the selling of this year’s Hither Green Christmas trees.

New Editors and contributors for the ourhithergreen website– We are looking for writers of all ages and experience.  It always been a busy community website and now needs refreshing with new content and maybe a new look!

A Hither Green Calendar Manager. The ‘Today in Hither Green’ Calendar is the busiest page of the ourhithergreen website with scores of activities happening around the neighbourhood each week. The calendar is especially precious to parents of young children who look for groups and activities. The calendar review is an opportunity for a parent or older person to catch up with local libraries, community venues and  to find out what’s on.

Hither Green Lane and Springbank Road Improvement Projects   There are some smashing plans afoot  to improve the streetscape of HGL and also Springbank Road.  If  you are interested in finding creative solutions to  improving the look of our shopping parades- trees , benches, planters, increasing footfall, a lack of seating….

A Street Trees Champion.  We need a person to encourage and manage the nominations of 20 new street trees for Hither Green.  This will involve liaising with the Lewisham Street trees for Living Group and  getting out and about locally.

We also need a new Treasurer and Secretary to bring projects together and to feedback to funders and the community.

Lewisham Borough of Culture 2022
We need some passionate people to organise a short series of proms concerts next summer – Bands,  choirs, publicity , venues.

Hither Green Festival 2022– We need a small team  to curate a week of festival talks walks, performance, food a music working with local people businesses and groups and all within this new covid-aware environment.

Please email Chair@ourhithergreen.com about the work you would like to do,  we’ll go for a walk or a coffee and discuss a way forward

Thanks Annie Parker,  Acting Chair.
