Network Rail – Bank Holiday Engineering works

Network Rail Engineering Works in the Lewisham / Hither Green Area.
The Government designated bank holiday engineering work as essential. However, some works have been been postponed following Public Health England guidance- The planned commissioning – switch on – of the new signalling in the Hither Green area will now be postponed as the work cannot be completed on time over the bank holiday weekend, while staff follow safety guidance.

The big ‘Switch On’ will now be rescheduled to a date when it can be completed on time and safely.

Works that will be going ahead:
The Easter bank holiday line closures will be used to do as much work as possible and minimise future disruption to passengers.

Projects to improve signalling reliability in the Lewisham area, installation of negative short-circuiting devices to improve electrical safety and reduce the time it takes to do engineering work, and critical maintenance across the route will all go ahead.

Essential travel only: Buses to replace trains:
With the COVID-19 emergency, passengers are advised to only travel if absolutely necessary. However, bus replacement services will run between Lewisham, Orpington, Bromley North and Sidcup from Friday 10 April, until Monday 13 April, with trains running on those lines again on Tuesday 14 April. Anyone making essential journeys is encouraged to plan ahead and check before travelling.
