Sydenham Garden group activities –

Garden session (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10am-12:30pm or 1:30pm-4pm)
Garden is a social and therapeutic horticultural project. based in our restored Victorian Garden and Nature reserve. Sessions run weekly for two and a half hours and take part in groups of eight to twelve adults. Group members will take part in a variety of gardening activities through all the seasons, with a choice of less physical activities for those with physical pain and restricted mobility. placement in the garden project are for a twelve-month period. The Garden project is fully accessible. The focus of Garden is for adults to improve their wellbeing and mental health through creative and social activity, improving their confidence and self-esteem.
Art and Craft session (Wednesdays 10am-12:30pm or 1:15pm-3:30pm)
Members take part in weekly group sessions and activities based on art and craft techniques. Sessions run on Wednesdays for two and a half hours and take part in groups of eight to twelve adults. Typically, a member is placed in our art and craft project for a twelve month period. The focus is for adults to improve their wellbeing and mental health through creative and mindful activity along with social interaction. Art and craft sessions take place in out fully accessible activity room
Growing lives (Tuesdays, Friday 10:30am-2:30pm)
Growing lives is based at our De Frene site where we manage a market (grow to sell) garden. Members take part in weekly activities, which are based on horticultural and business practices. Sessions run for four or more hours and include a communal lunch. They take part in groups of eight to twelve adults. Typically a member is placed in our growing lives projects for a twelve-month period. Co-workers graduate after twelve months with the possibility of achieving OCN qualifications and a professional reference.
Growing lives Men’s group ( Thursdays 10am-2pm)
Same as the growing lives project but a male specific group.
Bee club (Thursdays 2pm-3:30pm)
Bee Club is based at our De Frene Market Garden and runs weekly during spring and summer. Sessions are for one and a half hours and are focused on the world of Bees and conservation. Sessions are led by a Bee keeper and members will have the opportunity to learn about how Bees are kept, assemble bee hive frames and possibly harvesting honey.
Conservation and Nature Crafts (Tuesdays 1:30pm-4pm)
Sessions run weekly for two and a half hours and take part in groups of eight to twelve adults. members take part in activities based on horticulture, conservation and rural crafts. Placement in the conservation and nature crafts group are for a twelve-month period.
Art club/knitting group (Running fortnightly Mondays 10am-12:30pm)
The Art club and knitting group are peer lead drop in sessions. They take part fortnightly in the activities room at Sydenham Garden. members take part in a variety of art and craft activities and knitting and crochet projects. Sessions last two and a half hours and there is a two-pound contribution for the session.
Drop-in volunteering (Wednesdays 10:30am-2:30pm)
Grower Volunteers is a weekly drop in session based at the De Frene site Market Garden. Sessions last for four hours Including a communal lunch. This session is aimed at people who have some gardening knowledge and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Volunteers will help with maintaining the Market Garden and take part in varied horticultural, Conservation and light construction activities.
Community volunteering (every 3rd Saturday of the month)
Community Volunteer days are open to members of the local community who would like to take part in Gardening activities and workshops. Sessions run on each third Saturday of the month At the De Ferne Market Garden during Spring to Autumn. Sessions last for four hours and include workshops such as Apple Pruning, Willow weaving and Family activity days.
These workshops are for people who would like to get into paid employment. The workshops go through the stages of finding a job. Participants will Learn about where you can search for jobs, The job application process and pre interview and during interview techniques. Employment workshops are delivered four times a year.
Goal setting workshop
The Goal setting workshops aim to support people in setting and making steps in reaching their goals. The workshop is focused on SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time Bound) Participants will learn about Smart goals, set their own smart goals and create an action plan on how they will achieve their goal. The aim of the workshop is to empower people to take responsibility for their goals in order to live a more satisfying life.
Pain management workshop
The Pain management program aims to improve participation in daily activities and enhance “quality of life” for those with persistent pain and disability. This may include focus on increasing mobility, self-care, work, leisure and social activities, and reducing reliance on medication or healthcare use. Pain management workshops will be delivered four times a year as well as 1-1 Reviews with Sydenham Garden members
The Tree of life (Personal growth tool) workshop
The Tree of life is a creative and therapeutic activity based in narrative therapy. Using the metaphor of a tree participants can map out their history, skills, achievements and future goals. The aim of this work shop is to empower participants to take steps in planning their recovery journey.
This is a weekly group for people from black and minority ethnic communities. The group will involve a variety of weekly activities including a men’s group, Women’s group, creative arts activities and a monthly bring and share community lunch.
