Monday 4 July: Artists Lionel Lionel Stanhope and Zara Gaze set up their ladders, cones and paints under the Ennerdale Road Bridge and began producing Hither Green’s newest (only?!) mural. It’s well worth a special stroll to admire the new artwork- it’s such a fun way to celebrate East and West Hither Green. (And who knows, you might meet someone from the other side…)

Caroline Hughes and Nikki Spencer are the powerhouse team who put the mural project together and they began raising awareness at the food and craft Festival. A whirlwind of activity has followed with a Facebook group and crowdfunding page set up and many local people and businesses keenly pledging their support. The £2,000 target took just a few weeks to raise, the whole thing has been a brilliant community achievement.
Caroline: “Great to see Zara and Lionel at work and even better to watch the whole thing taking shape. The site works really well and it’s been lovely hearing all the positive comments as people pass by, lots of pics being taken on phones too.”
LOCAL HEROES: We should also heartily hail the local residents who helped to prepare the wall! A clean up crew was recruited by email and social media and they faithfully turned out last Saturday morning with scrubbing brushes and pressure washers!
This is a community that cares. Fabulous stuff!
