Catford South to become ‘Dementia Friendly’

Catford South Ward  is working towards being designated an accredited Dementia Friendly area.

Lucy Formolli cooordinates the Ward Assembly for Lewisham Council and has teamed up with Barbara Gray recently retained to provide Community Development opportunities within Catford. Together they are working with Lewisham’s Adult Care Commissioning team, Age UK, The Alzheimer’s Society and MIND to develop strategies to support local people with dementia and their families.

The intention is for Catford South to become an accredited Dementia Friends ‘Area of Excellence.’ The Ward was selected partially because of excellent work already going on for and with older residents.

Local groups, businesses and in particular local schools are being recruited into the projects. Headteachers and Governors are also being contacted because there are young people ‘living with dementia’ which can be very stigmatizing.
