Lewisham at 50: Choose 50 Great Books

Lewisham Library Service have unveiled their 50 great reads of the last 50 years. 

You can take part by voting for your favourite books on the list.

The list is very broad and there is some genuine quality represented with new authors chosen alongside more established writers and  some extraordinary children’s books included too.

The list includes:

  • Wolf hall by Hilary Mantel
  • I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou
  • Half of a yellow sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • Midnight’s children by Salman Rusdie
  • The memoirs of a survivor by Doris Lessing
  • Longitude by Dava Sobel
  • Northern lights by Phillip Pullman
  • Maus by Art Spiegelman
  • Holes by Louis Sachar
  • Goodnight mister tom by Michelle Magorian
  • Noughts & crosses by Malorie Blackman
