Donna Read, Textile Design and Flowers

I live in Lee, I’m a textile designer and I’ve participated in Lee Green Open Studios for the last 10 years. I’m also a passionate allotmenteer and forager. On Saturday I participated in the Fuss fair for the first time, which was great fun, if a bit cold!

Lee Open Studios- An Artistic Community I look forward to Open Studios each year because I work well under pressure and I produce my best work at the 11th hour. Having Open Studios always over 2 weekends in November focuses the mind!
It has become  a real community event where the local residents and beyond enjoy walking round the neighbourhood to see artists work in their homes and studios. It gives me a chance to catch up with old friends and network with new ones. For example I met the new vicar for Good Shepherd, Lee, a young friendly woman vicar, just what this community needs!Donna_Read Textiles Collage 2
My Plans for 2015

Fund-raising for Breast Cancer Care.

I sell jams at Open Studios or at pop-up shops for Breast Cancer Care, the produce is either foraged or grown on my allotment. I’ll be hosting a pop up shop in the run up to Valentine’s Day for Breast Cancer Care at Archibald’s Cafe [Manor Lane], date to be confirmed. I’ll be selling flowers, cordials , jams, chocolates and gifts made locally. In the summer I host an old fashioned fete in my garden with 6 friends, profits to the same charity. We raised £900 last year and the year before.

In recent years I would sell my scarves and accessories at high end department stores in the States and Japan. Since being diagnosed with breast cancer I down scaled my work and started again.   I will begin selling directly through my website in the new year.

Wedding flowers   I grow and market my organically grown British flowers with  no air miles! These are seasonal flowers and source locally grown flowers for special occasion bouquets and weddings.  On the new site there will be a showcase for the flowers.
My 2015 To Do List!
  • Update my website!
  • Get linen cushions printed for my online shop.
  • Getting my new silk collection into small shops and galleries.
  • Think about Etsy or Da Wanda for my cards and wrapping paper.

Wreath-Making Workshop: Saturday 21 December I will be hosting a workshop on the last weekend before Xmas using foraged twigs, foliage and berries and dried tangerines. Please contact me to participate. Contact
