Fire at the Prefab Museum

Last Thursday there was a serious fire in the front bedroom of the brilliant Prefab Museum on the Excalibur estate, off Hazelbank Road.

The fire destroyed some equipment and art work, the wall and ceiling were damaged, but it appears to have been confined to that room. Smoke damage from the fire has covered every surface in the other rooms. It was very shocking and upsetting.

As a result Elizabeth Blanchet’s book launch has been cancelled and the museum has been closed temporarily while the fire investigation is under way. Health and safety checks will have to be done before the clean up can start.

Elizabeth and the team haven’t yet been able to assess the total damage and see what needs replacing.
