One hundred years ago the men of Hither Green went off
to war, reassured ‘it would all be over by Christmas’.
Retired British Army Colonel Alan Foster and local historian Godfrey Smith MBE will be re-creating the Hither Green of 1915, with a mix of local history and music hall favourites.

  • Book Tickets
  • Or pick them up from You Don’t Bring Me Flowers and The Cafe of Good Hope.

Cost: FREE

This history talk takes place just metres from the former drill hall on Ennersdale Road, home of the Lewisham Gunners, the 4th London (Howitzer) Brigade RFA. This ‘Howitzer Brigade’ was entirely made up of local volunteers.

This will be the first of a series of annual talks, bringing each year of The Great War to life, viewed from a local perspective.
Musical performances: The Hither Green Community Choir with audience participation, led by music director Phillip Bell.
