Belly Dancing FAQ’s
“I would like to try belly dance but I could Never show my belly”
The good news is you don’t ever have to if you don’t want to. I don’t bare my tummy even when performing and usually wear either a mesh tummy cover or a dress known as a ‘galabaya’. For class we generally wear a t-shirt and leggings with a shiny hip belt.
“I’m not the right size/shape for bellydance”
There is no right size or shape. A new experience for a lot of women when they first start class is allowing themselves to wobble! We seem to spend most of our lives trying to stop our flesh from moving, we find our wobbly bits embarrassing. In belly dance, if you have wobbly bits that’s just fine, and if you don’t that’s fine too, you’ll learn how move with the music with grace and rhythm and then adorn your best bits with sparkle!
Bellydance gives you ‘permission’ to feel beautiful and confident exactly as you are. It is not size or shape that matters it’s how you dance. Everyone will have something unique and charming about the way they move and interpret the music and that is what matters.
