Join Chris and Charlotte for the very first Lewisham Sing in the Park Sunday! Some fantastic songs and activities have been lined up.
Sessions will take place every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the Month 11:00-12:00 at Lewisham Arts Cafe in Manor Park.http://www.lewishamartscafe.uk/
What Do We Do? We arrange community circle singing in the lovely surroundings of Manor Park at Lewisham Arts Café. Join people of all ages and abilities in sharing songs that bring people together, fun songs, powerful songs, silly songs, joyous songs. We like to use what we call elastic songs, we take relatively simple songs and add parts, body percussion and movement that feels incredible when it all comes together and allows you to choose how much or little you wish to do. We welcome families, the young and the old. There is no commitment necessary, come once in a while or come to every session, this is about bringing people together through the enjoyment of singing.
How Much Does It Cost? This is a community project so while we recommend a £5 per session contribution any contribution is welcome.
When Do We Meet? 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 11:00-12:00 with the possibility of additional sessions if the project is popular. Our first meeting will be 18th September.
Who Are We? Charlotte Brennan and Chris Murphy are two music teachers, conductors and multi-instrumentalists who are passionate about the power singing can have on developing communal spirit and personal well-being. Between them they have a wealth of experience leading music in schools and communities. Their unique team approach ensures fun, friendly, exhilarating sessions that are both accessible and creative.
Their own musical interests defy musical boundaries and genres, incorporating folk musics of the world, western classical, jazz, pop and anything in between. The important thing for them is the emotional power and meaning of the music, not where it comes from.
Where Do We Meet? The Lewishamarts cafe is a unique hidden space run by local artists Fred & Banu. It has quickly developed a reputation as a focal point of the local arts scene helping turn Manor Park into a family-friendly space where Yoga and Kickboxing Classes run on the grass while children run about the play areas.
Sessions will run outside when the weather is nice and in the meeting space next to the cafe when it gets chilly. The cafe offers food and drinks and seating for when you are all sung out.
