The Friends of Manor House Library are issuing an early warning to local residents that the historic library is under threat. Having fought hard for over 20 years to bring the building and library back from the brink of destruction and closure, the Friends are and now reporting there is a proposal to downgrade Manor House Library to a ‘Community Library’.

Torridon Road Library and strangely Catford Library face the same worry.

The volunteers running the Community Libraries at Blackheath, Lower Sydenham, New Cross and Grove Park have had to fight hard to continue a viable library service for their local communities over the past three years and still they struggle to keep volunteer and visitor numbers up without full time professional librarians and Council resources and support.

The Friends of Manor House Library are circulating this article in the South London Press and asking the people of Hither Green to please fill in the consultation survey here.
