Throughout the lengthy process to improve Mountsfield Park, local parents have made the point that the current playground is no longer suitable.
They report that pieces of play equipment are often not in working order, that parts are rusty, and that parts of the safety flooring become muddy after heavy rainfall.
Having seen the new playground at Manor House Gardens, Hither Green parents are wondering why replacing and improving the play equipment isnt more key to the proposed park improvements.
According to the 2012 Groundwork Consultation, 63% of people surveyed, strongly agreed with improving play provision for children under 15.
At the moment the Council project team plans are to repair a small section of the playground flooring and to replace one piece of equipment. There are also plans to landscape natural play areas to encourage children in their imaginative play. However as a parent at the July 9 Town Hall meeting said, ‘the kids have the rest of the park for that.’
Playground Meeting: In light of this, parents are coming together to form a FOMP sub committee looking solely at ideas for improving the playground.
Their first meeting takes place on Thursday 7 August at 7.30pm.
Location: The Catford Constitutional Club on Catford Broadway.
The main topics for discussion will be playground ideas, funding and the writing of applications.
So do go along and weigh in!
